Vantage Hoops was in the gym to catch the action throughout the week. Below, we run down a scouting report of a few standouts from the class of 2017.
PG Donald Duncan | Team Melo
A capable knock down three point threat who picks up full court defensively, Donald Duncan was an effective part of Team Melo’s back court on both ends of the floor. Duncan consistently applied pressure on the ball and used his quick feet to consistently turn opposing ball handlers.
C Luka Garza | Team Takeover
Luka Garza continued to produce at a high level for Team Takeover at The Ei8ht in Vegas. Garza was able to be effective on the glass as a result of his high motor and strong hands. His high skill level along with his touch gives him the ability to score it from all areas of the floor.
PG Blake Harris | Team CP3
Blake Harris saved his best basketball of the summer for last, as he played a primary role as a playmaker for Team CP3 during their championship win at The Ei8ht. Harris was particularly dynamic off the bounce, and had some explosive finishes at the rim in traffic.
G DJ Harvey | Team Takeover
The level of aggression that DJ Harvey has been playing with in recent weeks has continued its upward trend. Harvey’s rebounding prowess in conjunction with his athleticism and skill make him a one-man fast break. An underrated playmaker with a high basketball IQ, Harvey’s versatility and creativity are evident on both ends of the floor.
SG Mike Hueitt Jr. | Team CP3
Mike Hueitt Jr. constantly showcased a prolific scoring touch from long range for Team CP3. Hueitt, who features an unbelievably quick quick release on his jump shot, can absolutely light up opponents if left unaccounted for on the perimeter. His shot making ability played a key part in his team’s championship run.
C Isiah Jasey | Houston Hoops
Imposing. Physical. Instinctive. Those are the words which come to mind when describing Isaiah Jasey’s defensive impact for Houston Hoops. Jasey is a big time leaper who has considerable length and impeccable timing when contesting shots.
F Greg Jones | Team Loaded VA
The ultimate glue guy, Greg Jones was a welcome presence on both ends of the floor for Team Loaded VA. Jones was terrific on the glass and contributed offensively with his ability to consistently stretch the floor from long range.
G Daniel Kiely | Team Melo
With his ability to do a bit of everything, Daniel Kiely made a consistent impact in a variety of areas for Team Melo. He rebounded, created off the dribble, and scored at the rim. Kiely gave good effort defensively, and made hustle plays for his team.
SG Jake Kuhn | District Basketball Club
More and more schools are starting to take notice of what Jake Kuhn brings to the table. The sharp-shooting, long-limbed, athletic lefty is excellent off the ball and has outstanding defensive potential given his constant motor. Kuhn’s energy is contagious, and he enjoys being a sparkplug for his team.
