Most players going into their Junior Season of high school basketball are still trying to get their feet wet and get comfortable with playing in the particular high school system but that definitely wasn’t the case from Zach Hobbs this past year. He’s played on the varsity squad since his freshman year and each year has improved in some type of way, initially he played the facilitator role but now he has shown the ability to put up big time scoring numbers as well. The past few seasons he has teamed up with Robert Colon and Kenny Dye to cause nightmares for opposition’s backcourts and helped lead Northside to multiple 20+ win seasons. Prior to and following the season he attended the East NC Fab 40 camp and performed well in both events, he was also a finalist in the 3 point shootout in the spring event. During the summer he played with Flight 22 and performed well against some legit competition across the region and country, we are expecting a big time year from Zach without a doubt.
What makes him special?
Without a question his ability to score the ball is definitely what catches your attention the moment you watch him play, he has good upper body strength and athleticism so he has the ability to finish inside. His outside shooting ability is tremendous, there has been countless games where he’s knocked down a high number of treys and shot a high field goal percentage. As gifted as he offensively he may be just as legit on the defensive end of the floor, he has quick hands and good lateral quickness he uses to stay in front of defenders and to come up with steals. The key for Zach will to be able to show a combination of his scoring ability and facilitating ability throughout the year, D2 schools have shown interest and should definitely watch him closely over the next season.
