“I’m hearing the most from St John’s, St. Thomas, Briar Cliff, Morningside, and Jamestown,” said Leo. “I don’t have any visits planned yet but I’d like to see St. Thomas again and St. Johns again. I want to stay close to home.”
Leo impressed coaches from these staffs playing for Willie Vang and Connor Nord on the Minnesota Heat Vang squad that won 41 games this past spring/summer.
Leo is a longtime Minnesota Heat talent who had a great experience playing for the red and black.
“Playing for the Heat has been a great experience by itself,” Leo said. “I’ve had great coaches and teammates all the years I’ve played for the Heat. And it was awesome to end my career there with a great and memorable season.
“Las Vegas was the most memorable moment spending five days hanging out in a awesome city with the guys while having all the success we had on the court. Other great memories were big wins we had like beating the Warriors and going to the state championship.
“Overall AAU just made me a better smarter player and taught me how to play a role and play it well. And it was always great to have Conner to work on my post game with the last four years.”
The Heat Vang squad put together a nice set of local wins beating the Minnesota Warriors, Fury Kallman, WOTN twice, Select Ohnstad twice, and Powerhouse MN once. That is an impressive list of wins that includes a .500 record against the top ten teams in the state.
Leo played for Blaine in the post last year with UMD bound Ben Scherer and helped them to 19 wins. Leo now takes over all the low post minutes and returns with main rotation guys Sam Gerrety, Byron Bynum, and Kurtis Weigand.
There is a lot of production that must be replaced so Leo has a big fall of work.
“Over the next few months I’m just going to stay in the weight room and run to stay in shape,” Leo explained. “Also I’m excited for fall ball to start to start working with the varsity guys who are not playing football.
“A big thing for us is learning how to play with some of the new varsity guys who were on JV last year. We have a great blend of shooters, big men, and point guards so I’m very excited to see how far we can go this year.
“I’m going to continue to work on my jump shooting and my free throws over the next few months and try to be a good leader for this coming season.”
