Recruiting Report: Robby Sweers (2017)
A versatile wing who can knock down the 3-ball and slashes to the hoop well, Clayton Ridge’s 6-foot-6 2017 Robby Sweers has become one of the more intriguing 2017s in Iowa.
But Sweers — with his great size — is also a stud on the gridiron, and has yet to commit to which sport he may want to pursue in college.
“Probably basketball, but football is not out of the question. I’m seeing a lot of Division III stuff for basketball; Buena Vista, Luther, Coe, and I’ve talked to Cornell too — a lot of the Iowa Conference schools mostly.”
Central, Simpson and a couple out-of-state schools gave talked with Sweers about possibly playing football. And he has not ruled out playing both sports at the next level.
“It’s definitely not out of the question,” he said. “I would want to know a little bit more about how it would all work though.”
Sweers recently wrapped up his 17U grassroots season with Iowa Prep, he was pleased with how his spring and summer went.
“They wanted me to score a lot, and get other guys involved,” he said. “I thought I played pretty well in July, we had a pretty good last tournament in South Dakota.”
Now it’s football season, but immediately after that his focus will shift to his final season of high school hoops.
“This year we lose a couple scorers, so I’m definitely going to have to take on a bigger role, even though I had a huge role last year,” he said. “My coach is going to get me some more looks this year, and hopefully we can win our conference.”
