He checks in at No. 61 in our recently released 2017 rankings, and there are two area colleges that have been showing interest in the talented and versatile wing.
“I’ve talked to Central and Northwestern up in Orange City. And then I’ve gone to some UNI camps, I really like UNI,” said Holterhaus.
“I’ve talked with the Central coach several times and it sounds like he really wants me to play there. But I don’t have a lot of interest in staying in Pella. I kind of want to get out of town, and go do some other stuff.”
So that leaves the other school, Northwestern, which is more than a four hour drive from Pella. Holterhaus says he’s interested in the program.
“Coach (Kris) Korver at Northwestern, it sounds like he also really wants me to play there. And that is a school that I think I could be interested in.”
The Pella 2017 says his ability to get hot from deep, especially when he’s confident, is what makes him dangerous. And he also considers himself to be a strong rebounder.
Both of which were on full-display this spring and summer with one of Iowa’s best 17U teams, Pella-based Shoot it!.
“We played really well as a team. We didn’t have a lot of big guys, so my job was to guard some big guys and rebound,” said Holterhaus, who now shifts his focus to his senior season with the Dutch.
“Last season we had some good seniors that provided some really good leadership. And this year that will be my role — I’ll need to be more of a leader. And then just play as aggressive as I can, and do the best I can for my team.”
