Both adept on the gridiron and hardwood, Mumm says basketball has always been his favorite, and he’s been seeing some Division III interest come his way.
“So far it’s just been mostly Central, they’ve been interested for the last year to year-and-a-half. I’ve gone to some of their camps and have talked to their coaches. And then I just got a letter from Simpson, and got invited to an elite camp at Cornell,” said Mumm.
“I could definitely see myself playing D3 basketball. Hopefully this season I can do the right things and just get more noticed by a couple more coaches….and see where it goes from there.”
Mumm was again showcasing himself plenty this spring and summer, showing slick handles with nice savvy while playing with one of the state’s best 17U teams, All-Iowa Attack Black.
“I just think I’ve improved on becoming a better floor-general overall, and looking to attack more and being more aggressive. And also looking to help get my teammates open more, just things like that,” said Mumm.
“Mostly I was an off-guard, but if I had to I could bring the ball up the floor. And I was there to bring lots of energy, play solid defense, and if needed I could score. Really just have a high-motor and help the team with whatever they needed.”
Now, just months removed from his final season with Ames, Mumm mentioned to PHIA what his role will be as senior.
“I’m just going to have to step-up and fill some of the gaps left by last year’s seniors,” said Mumm. “And just help my teammates with whatever they need.”
