Imagine growing from 5’10 to about 6’5 during your high school basketball career. Miles Joiner (2017), hit a growth spurt that ended up changing his role on the team. Joiner went from a point guard and shooting guard to a center for Chaminade-Julienne. Joiner made the proper adjustments to his new position. Starting out his freshman year, Miles was only 5’10 entering high school. He dominated on the Freshman level at the guard position having 30+ points before getting moved up to the Junior Varsity level. Miles dressed Varsity his freshman year. Little did he know he would go from 5’10 to 6’3 just before basketball season hit sophomore year. With being 6’3, Miles became the tallest player on his team which is the reason why he played Center. Miles grew up to 6’5 his junior year. I asked Joiner to describe his adjustment to his new position, he said:
“I just wanted to do what I could to help the team. I was a little nervous because I was working on ball handling and doing point guard drills during the offseason then just as the season begins, I became a post player. I just planned to use what I knew from playing point guard and transfer it over to the post”.

“Shooting has always been one of my strong points. I found myself having a lot of room to shoot playing center because big men were usually guarding me to protect the drive instead of getting close to stop me from shooting.”
Joiner is trying to adjust his way to interest and offers. Joiner could not name his interest from small DI schools and DII schools but the only one he could name was Maine. Miles averaged 14.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and shot 60% from the free throw line.
Joiner transferred from Chaminade-Julienne to Vandalia Butler late in the basketball season. Chaminade-Julienne struggled picking up the pace afterwards. Miles has to make the adjustment from going from the Greater Catholic League to the Greater Western Ohio Conference. With Joiner being the new addition to Vandalia Butler, the spotlight has shifted to Vandalia.
