In the basketball world, we hear the words: overlooked, underrated rated, slept-on and so forth pretty often when we are discussing prospects and their recruitment. Honestly some of these words get overused at times, player may be receiving recruitment from numerous schools but not necessarily the school they want so they feel they are underrated, which is untrue. However there is a player that we feel is underrated and should be having college coaches watching over the next few years and that is Overhills HS Guard Latrell Lloyd. Latrell has been quietly putting together some impressive performances and playing a major role in helping Overhills knock off some of the better known teams in the area.
What makes him special?
There are two main attributes that I’ve seen from Latrell that makes him a special player, first is his athleticism, this young man is a high flyer without a doubt and had countless plays this season with highlight dunks and blocks. Secondly is his toughness, being a football player as well as a basketball player he has that toughness that a lot of players simply don’t have. He doesn’t mind contact at all, and for a guard that is about 5’9 that is something that you have to love, no matter who he is playing against he’s not going to back down and has a strong desire for his team to win. Defensively he moves well laterally and likes to play physical on the ball defense, he plays with high intensity but also has a high stamina level. He’s the type of player that a coach can tell to go guard his man full-court the entire game and he would be able to accomplish it without a doubt. College coaches that are looking for a guard in the future should keep an eye on Latrell, especially programs that play an up-tempo/pressure defense style of basketball.
