Louisiana Top 250 Expo: Top 10 Performers
The first Top 250 Expo of the summer for Prep Hoops came to a close yesterday evening and it was a great one. As you’ve already seen in videos being posted, there was plenty of big time plays being made and even more talent in the gym. The next few days will hold plenty of recaps and information regarding the camp.
We will take a look at the Top 10 Performers and my personal Camp MVP in this article (you’ll notice MVPs listed from other writers as well).
2017
Tylan Dean (6’1 G, Grambling Lab) – Dean proved his jumper is as pure as anyone’s in the state Sunday and his play on the ball was improved as well. As he continues to transition to the 1, his value will increase. Instinctive off the ball defender as well.
Raylon Hardy (6’0 PG, Hahnville) – Hardy was one of the better players on the ball this weekend and routinely made players around him better. The lefty lives in the lane and showed he knows how to get his own when need be as well.
Latrell Jones (6’2 G, Archbishop Shaw) – Jones could have made one of the best cases for MVP on this list with multiple big time performances and just as many heads turned. He scored at will, as usual, from every level and showed just how much of a gamer he is.
Darius McCord (6’5 F, Faith Training) – McCord is a bit of an unknown being that Faith Training doesn’t play in the LHSAA and he dominates the paint for them. His rim to rim speed and ability to knock shots down beyond the three point line were impressive.
2018
Jourdan Smith (6’5 G/F, Archbishop Shaw) – Smith was one of the biggest take aways from camp as a guy who can do it all on the court. His length is extremely impressive and at only 15 years old as a rising junior, he’s young with even more growth ahead.
Christavious Thomas (6’6 F, North Caddo) – Christavious made plays the entire day whether it was big rebounds or blocks or getting out in transition offensively. He does a great job posting on offense and is comfortable in the pick and roll as well. Great frame.
DeVaughn Thomas (6’6 G, Comeaux) – His biggest criticism in the past has been his level of aggressiveness and he quieted those in a hurry this weekend with big dunks and big plays throughout. Shoots the ball well and defend every position.
2019
Larenz Williams (6’4 F, MLK Charter) – One thing you can never question about Williams is his effort on the court. He played hard from the moment he walked in the gym in drills until the buzzer sounded in his last game. Hyper athlete with a developing skill set.
Norris Williams Jr. (5’10 PG, Archbishop Hannan) – Williams was one of the top passers at the camp if not the best in any class as just a rising Sophomore. Long wingspan allows him to finish around the rim and be disruptive on or off the ball.
Jordan Wright (6’5 G, Dunham) – Wright is the top player in 2019 and made it known throughout camp with his attack mode turned on from the first minute. High IQ (on and off the court) allows him to play multiple positions an the impressive frame makes him a scary long term prospect.
MVP
Isaiah Lewis (6’4 G, Helen Cox, 2018) – Lewis is always one of the more aggressive players in the gym and his passion for winning spills out the entire time. His jumper looks vastly improved and his basketball IQ as well. Couple that with out of the gym athleticism and a frame that looks more like a professional than a rising high school junior and you’ve got a player who made more plays and went as hard or harder than anyone else in the gym. Check videos posted for proof.
