Today I got a chance to talk with Harge Jr., about how his recruitment is going, his game, plans for the rest of the summer and his decision to transfer back to North Carolina.
After spending the last couple season at Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep helping lead them to a state championship in his first year as a starter, has decided to transfer to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina just outside of Asheville.
At Christ School, he will be coached by Scott Willard who previously was the head coach at The Miller School in Virginia has sent Isaac Copeland to Georgetown and Andrew White to Kansas. Christ School plays a national schedule and is the only boys program in the history of Western North Carolina to win five straight state titles in basketball.
Since 2005, the Christ School Greenies have sent 23 graduates to Division I programs. Harge says, “For my upcoming season at Christ School, my goal is learn as much as I can from Coach Willard and to help my team win a state title in NC! My decision to transfer to Christ School was due to my desire for a rigorous academic schedule and more competitive school basketball schedule. I am also excited about the opportunity to be coached by someone who has worked with other high level players.”
The 5-foot-9 ball-handling wizard was named First-Team All-State selection by the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches for his play last season. This past summer with Southern Stampede on the Nike EYBL circuit 16U team. “My second part of live period went ok. It could have gone better, I am Already looking forward to the season ahead.” With a few months away before starting back to school Harge plans to work hard getting better and prepare for the school season.
With a silky smooth game, unbelievable ball-handling ability and a rainbow three-point shot that is deadly accurate, it’s easy to see why many consider Harge one of the top prospects in the 2018 class. Harge says,”The most important parts of my game involve being an aggressive defender, breaking down the defense, being able to score when needed, and making the other players better.” Harge explains his game as “It’s hard to explain. I am quick and can get to where I want to on the floor to either get my shot off or involve other players. I feel that I need to work on staying aggressive, talking more on the court, and increasing my athletic ability.”
He already has offers from Memphis, DePaul, UCF, Texas Tech, North Carolina-Central and Pacific. Harge says of schools recruiting him lately, “I have heard from Florida Gulf Coast, Michigan State, Arizona State, NC State, Florida and Santa Clara recently.” When asked about what will be key factors in choosing a college, Harge said “When I make my college school choice, I will be looking for a place where I am needed vs. wanted and can compete for a starting position.”
Damon Harge Jr., is ranked as the number 3 overall prospect in the 2018 class by PrepHoopsNC.
