Last time we touched on guards that mostly fell in the top 15 with some names to watch. We’ll focus on the next group here and rehash those names we told you to watch and why they should be on your radar.
“There are plenty of names to watch like Jonathan Cisse (6’2 PG, St. Thomas More), Farontay Banks (6’0 PG, Comeaux), Eric Reed Jr. (6’1 PG, University), Eli Mouton (5’9 PG, Ascension Episcopal), and Garland Robertson Jr. (5’10 G, Riverside).”
Cisse is a scoring guard who will be tasked with shouldering even more of the load this coming season for St. Thomas More and the same is true for Robertson with Riverside. Both teams lost a good bit in the backcourt to graduation and these two will need to step up.
Banks will play with a very talented group of returners for Comeaux as they look to make a run in 5A. He’s an extremely talented athlete with the ability to chance the floor on both ends. Reed is very similar in that aspect and while UHigh loses mostly front court talent, the push for even more tempo will rely on Reed and others taking a jump in production.
Eli Mouton runs a team with both poise and flair. He’s got a penchant for making flashy plays but can be counted on consistently to provide both leadership and production. A floor general in the same mold is Corey Johnson (6’0 PG, Thibodaux). His play for LA Lightning the summer made him impossible to take off the court.
Joseph Foucha (5’11 G, McDonogh 35) is a physical guard who can score the ball in bunches but his future is on the football field after high school. The same goes for Devonta Jason (6’2 SG, Landry-Walker). Both are tremendous athletes with raw basketball ability but will certainly be playing football in college.
Parker Edwards (6’3 G, St. Paul) has become one of the top shooters in the class and sneaky with the ball in his hands. Thick frame and needs to continue to improve laterally but he caught fire at times in July. Anthony Rainey (5’9 PG, HL Bourgeois) also has a big Spring and Summer for his grassroots team. He’s very quick and can score in a hurry on the offensive end.
Sai Fisher (6’2 G, St. Augustine) is another thick guard who has improved this summer. As he continues to get in better shape, he proves just how good he can be. Brock Booker (6’5 G, Florien) was impressive in June during team camps and has the size to play multiple positions with the skill set to back it up. Really impressive shooter and can run a team.
Donald Johnson (6’1 G, Jehovah-Jireh) is always a threat to score the basket and possesses one of the more impressive skill sets when he is locked in. David Robinson Jr. (6’3 G, Central Lafourche) is sort of a Swiss army knife on the court. Willing to defend anyone and can play just about any role on the offensive end.
