Teams from around the region come in to compete and take home the award of being Team Camp champs, this year the Garner HS Trojans took home the hardware after playing at a very high level. As usual the camp was ran great and a huge salute should be given to Coach Stackhouse and the entire Westover High School staff and family. Throughout the camp we learned quite a few things about teams and players, over the next few days we will discuss some of what we learned and also who college coaches should be keeping their eyes on this season.
1. Telligence Johnson is more than a dunker
If you go on YouTube and watch highlight tapes of this young man you will see a good amount of dunks and blocks showing his athletic ability. However throughout this camp he showed the full package of his offensive skills and defensive ability on and off the ball mixed in with his usual highlights. He knocked down midrange and perimeter shots at a very high rate, as well as showing his ability to break down defenders with his advanced ball handling skills. The question has always been, what position will he be able to play at the next level? Well with his improved perimeter skills overall that we saw throughout this camp, we can see him being a very solid Shooting Guard in college. At 6’3 he’s not the tallest Shooting Guard prospect but what he lacks in height he makes up in strength & athleticism. He has a high motor and is a very competitive youngster who knows how to win and brings intensity on both ends of the floor. His frame is solid which allows him to be able to fight inside against bigger opponents and to not be posted up easily. As of right now his recruitment has been solid with interest from: Wake Forest, Clemson and some Mid Major programs as well, we strongly suggest coaches stop in to see him this July with Team Wall, you won’t be disappointed.
