Thursday Night Standouts From The Ei8ht
LAS VEGAS, NV — The Ei8ht resumed at Spring Valley High School on Thursday with the final four, and Vantage Hoops was in the gym for a first-hand look. Below is a rundown of eight players who stood out.
Wendell Carter Jr. – Team CP3
There may not be a single thing that Wendell Carter Jr. can’t do on the basketball court. The 6-foot-10, 260 pounder out of Atlanta is a big time athlete. Carter rebounds exceptionally well in traffic, and easily absorbs contact when finishing around the basket. The rising senior big showcased his skill set by hitting a tough step back jumper. Carter recorded 15 points, 10 rebounds, and a block in a win vs. Team Final.
Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree – Team Final
Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree is a flat out workhorse. The Philly native is absolutely relentless on the boards, especially on the offensive glass. Cosby has good hands, and can finish with either hand around the rim. The Villanova commit recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks vs. Team CP3.
Mike Hueitt Jr. – Team CP3
Once again, Mike Hueitt Jr. is quickly making a himself among the most prolific three point marksmen in the country. Hueitt is a big time shot maker with a quick release. He cashed in on four three pointers on his way to 16 points. Hueitt also grabbed 7 boards in a win vs. Team Final.
Elijah Landrum – MOKAN Elite
Reliable. Tough. Gritty. Those are the things that come to mind when describing Elijah Landrum. The Tulsa native was locked in defensively, and did a nice job converting turnovers into quick points for his team. Landrum was very aggressive off the bounce and earned a handful of trips to the foul line. He recorded 19 points, 3 assists, and a steal in a win vs. Team Melo.
De’Vondre Perry – Team Melo
De’Vondre Perry refused to give up until the final whistle on Thursday night. Perry was simply magnificent for Team Melo on both ends of the court. He rebounded well from his position, and demonstrated the ability to consistently score from three levels. Perry’s clutch gene was exhibited late in the game. He finished up with 24 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal vs. MOKAN Elite.
Collin Sexton – Team CP3
The EYBL’s top point man, Collin Sexton, once again showcased big time scoring ability. The Georgia native shot the ball very well from long range, where he cashed in on three attempts. Sexton demonstrated a quick first step and big time explosiveness when attacking the basket. He recorded 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assists in a win vs. Team FInal.
Bryan Trimble – MOKAN Elite
Florida State commit Bryan Trimble was locked in from long range in the first half. The strong, 6-foot-3 shooting guard mixed it up nicely offensively, and earned several trips to the charity stripe. Trimble was all over the passing lanes. He recorded 19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist in a win vs. Team Melo.
Lonnie Walker – Team Final
Lonnie Walker was extremely solid on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-4 guard out of Reading, PA, was locked in defensively. Walker snared rebounds, swiped steals, and quickly pushed the ball up the court in transition. He recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists vs. Team CP3.
