Team: Iowa Mavericks 15U Purple
Program director: Tyler Cleveland
Record: 17-10
Best tournament finish(es): Gold Champions at Prep Hoops Battle of Lakes
Team MVP: If I had to pick three guys who have been the most consistent throughout the Spring, I would have to say PJ Rundquist, Sam Gary, and Mosai Newsom.
Biggest surprise (player or team attribute/accomplishment): Nathan Michels has really stepped up, especially defensively. We aren’t very big, so he has had to guard some stronger guys, and has handled it. Also, Darnell Connor has stepped up to become more of a leader, and embrace his roles.
Best defender: Cortaviaus Seales has been a huge improvement, especially on the defensive end. He hasn’t yet grown into his body, like his brothers have, but once he gets a little more weight and height, he will be a very tough player.
Best team moment: Coming back from deficits in all three games on Sunday, to win the Gold Bracket in Minneapolis.
Evaluation of how your team preformed in the spring: I would give it a solid “B”. For the amount of time we have played with each other (since the start of the year) they have really became one. If this team sticks together the rest of July, and into the next two years, it will be a great sight to see. We will be one of, if not the top team in Iowa.
July schedule:
Chicago July 8-10
Minneapolis July 15-17
July goals (for team and/or individual players): Keep improving. Our goal is to help get these guys ready for their high school teams, and for us to help them on what they can improve on. Both individually and team wise.
