Despite the name typically being negative, 2017 Clinton Christian (MD) PG Josh Page takes pride in the nickname that his Mom and Dad came up with watching their son play defense through his basketball career.
The 5-11 point guard agrees, pointing to defense as his best trait on the court.
“Definitely defense. Since I was a little kid, I’ve always loved to play defense. My Mom and Dad like to consider me a ‘crook’ on defense. It’s the nickname they gave me on defense,” said Page.
Add in there the D-1/D-2 interest and one offer from D-2 Virginia Union that this ‘crook’ has brought in, and you could argue he is stealing a lot of well-deserved attention.
Other schools showing interest include D-1 colleges George Mason and DePaul alongside D-2 Assumption College among others.
Page is building off a high school season that ended stronger than it began for his Clinton Christian (MD) team, in which the point guard rose to accolades of 2nd Team All-Conference and 1st Team Defense in conference.
“Individually, I did pretty decent. I averaged about 15 PPG, 4 or 5 steals a game, and 5 or 6 assists per game. I think I ended pretty strong,” said the guard.
“I would consider myself a leader because down the stretch I would be the one with the ball in my hands making the plays for my team,” he continued.
This summer mainly with team Bump N Run, Page sees himself filling a similar role.
“We have a pretty solid team. I think I have the same role with them too. They look for me to score and play defense and assist the ball,” he said.
In contrast to his well-known skill on defense, the point guard also told PHM his favorite strategy on offense.
“I like to drive to the basket; I’m a drive-to-the-basket type of guy. I like to get contact to get to the free throw line,” said Page.
Headed into his next season with Clinton Christian, he looks to improve on other areas of his offensive game.
“Before next year, I definitely want to improve on my jump shot and my ball-handling. I think those are the two key factors for me. If I just keep improving on those, I’ll be fine,” said Page.
Look out for the ‘crook’ this July live period as he finishes with team Bump N Run while also making a guest appearance with DC Blue Devils at the Under Armor Finals.
