Over the past 30 years, three things have been certain, death, taxes, and St. Thomas More fielding a competitive team. This year should be no different, as STM seeks to reach the Top 28 for the fourth time in five years, albeit in a very different “select vs. non-select” format. This year the Cougar’s go to scorer is going to be 2018 6’2 Louisiana Select Team Milsap combo guard Jonathon Cisse.
Cisse is going to be taking over a large portion of the offensive load this year, as the Cougars are facing departures of three starters, including 2016 DeVante’ Benjamin, an incoming freshman for Louisiana college. Cisse says that he is looking forward to the challenge, “not only scoring, but as a playmaker as well. I think I’m going to thrive having the ball in my hands, creating for myself and others.”
This new role has been fitting Cisse just fine this summer, as he continues to flourish on the offensive end. Over the course of June, Cisse led the Cougars in both scoring and assists, and looked incredibly smooth doing so. There was little doubt that Cisse could shoot from the outside, but he has looked much more aggressive getting to the goal, and either dishing to the open teammate, or using his long wingspan to finish. One of the things that was really surprising was how comfortable Cisse looked finishing over bigger and physical opponents. While speaking with another coach after Cisse finished over two 6’7 opponents, he exclaimed “There’s no doubt that kid ends up D-1. Just so smooth.” While there is some debate about what position he plays in high school, Cisse says “at the next level (I’m) definitely a point guard.”
Cisse has a 2.7 GPA and has yet to take the ACT. He has heard from several in-state schools, including Northwestern State and UL, as well as high profile schools out of state, such as TCU and Wisconsin. While he has yet to receive any offers, it is only a matter of time before college coaches come running.
