Fayetteville Academy was a team this year that surprised quite a few people with their play throughout the season, following a difficult season where the team failed to reach double digit wins. This year they brought in 3 varsity basketball transfers that led them to an impressive record for their first year: Jon Gauer, Demetrius Jones and John-Michael Wright. John-Michael is a young man that quite simply has put in the work over this past season in the gym and weight room to becoming another player in the 2019 class that you must keep an eye on. He is a very well-mannered and humble young man but once the game starts he is the ultimate competitor, regardless of who his team is matched up against, we know for a fact that he is going to bring his a game and leave it all on the floor.
What makes him special?
First of all he has the strong desire to win and simply hates to lose, I’ve had the privilege to watch this young man play in countless game over the past 6 months and every time he laces them up he plays with 110% effort. He’s a knock down shooter and has a very smooth midrange game and has a good IQ for what is a good shot and what is a bad shot, which many players these days don’t have. Also he’s added quite a bit of muscle to his frame and athletic ability over the last year, which now allows him to finish in the paint over big and to embrace contact without his shot be altered much. Defensively he’s the type of guard that will pick his man up full court and cause havoc, with good lateral quickness and quick hands he is a nuisance for whoever he is guarding. It’s no surprise that this young man already has D1 coaches paying him attention, as long as he continues to work he can develop into a very nice prospect in the class of 2019.
