And though he still holds no offers, plenty of Division II and Division I schools have started paying attention the 6-foot-6 wing.
“I’ve gotten emails from Augustana (SD), Central Michigan and Central Missouri. I’ve also seen some mail from Winona State, and Briar Cliff. And I’ve gotten texts from Nebraska-Kearney, and they said they are interested, and they’re going to come watch me this high school season,” said Herrick who mentioned Nebraska-Kearney is the one he feels might be the first to offer.
“This month I haven’t really thought about much other than college recruitment. I’ve been sending emails to coaches on the NCSA website. I’ve just been focusing on recruiting.”
Along with prioritizing his recruitment, Herrick has been focusing on improving his mid-range jumper, and some more perimeter skills.
“I’ve been working on my mid-range and my ball-handling,” said Herrick. “And my mid-range jumper has especially been improving a lot since I’ve been working on it.”
During his 16U offseason Herrick has been playing with a variety of grassroots teams including the Iowa Wolves, Iowa Cornsharks Select, and Prep Prep.
This weekend he’ll be in Las Vegas with Pure Prep 16U at the adidas Uprising Summer Championships. Then he’ll start focusing on what could be a big-time junior season with the Toreadors.
“I’ve been trying to be a lot more vocal on my AAU teams and also this June with Boone,” said Herrick. “It’s something that I really need to work on.”
