With the conclusion of his 16U season he’s hoping to see a spike in his recruitment, but as of now he says there’s just one school that is actively recruiting him.
“Lately it’s been Air Force, they’ve been talking to me a lot. And as of right now it’s just them as far as texting and calling on the phone. I’ve gotten a lot of other letters, but no other phone calls,” said Towns.
“I hope my recruitment comes together well and I start getting some offers. But I can’t really focus on the recruitment because it’s not in my hands. All you can focus on is getting better and letting the coaches see what you can do.”
Towns is now gearing up for his junior season of football with the Vikings, but rest-assured, he’s basketball through-and-through.
“It’s basketball for sure. I might do a little more training for football just to get stronger, but other than that I play basketball all year round,” said Towns, who defined his hoops skill-set.
“I feel like I’m good on defense and talking on defense, that’s what I want to make sure I’m great at. And then I can shoot the ball, get to the rim, be strong, and finish well.”
He recently wrapped up his 16U grassroots season with 270 Hoops Select, and says even outside of grassroots ball, he’s been in the gym everyday.
“During the summer I’ve just been trying to get in the gym as much as I can, two or three times a day even,” he said. “I’ve just been trying to get on the floor as much as I can, and putting in work with my AAU team and high school team.”
With his junior basketball season not too far off, Towns broke down his personal goals.
“Myself and a couple of my teammates will need to step-up into a major role and just help the team,” he said. “And I want to at least average a double-double, at the least.”
