This offseason he’s been one of the more impressive under-recruited players we’ve seen; with decent size, a pure stroke from three, and some diversity at the guard position.
“My strength is shooting, and I feel like when I bring the ball up the floor as a point guard I can see the floor well by keeping my eyes up and hitting cutters, and finding shooters,” said Ihle.
“I like to play defense, and I take pride in guarding the other team’s best player and maybe their big-man too, because our team really isn’t that big.”
This spring and summer he’s been playing with one of Iowa’s surprise grassroots teams: All Iowa Attack Black. He explained their formula of success.
“We have a lot of team chemistry. It’s mostly Dowling and Ballard guys, and we’ve become good friends and we hang out on the weekends,” said Ihle. “We’re a good shooting team and even our big guys shoot it well, and even when we’re not shooting well, our big guys are good at grabbing rebounds and getting easy buckets in the paint.”
So a good-sized guard with a pure stroke who plays defense, but still with no college interest to speak of. Ihle is officially under the radar.
He could be an intriguing option for Division III and NAIA programs.
“I know I’m a good player, and I know there are other good players like me who are getting scouted,” said Ihle. “I just feel like I can compete at a higher level. No one has reached out yet, but hopefully after this summer, I can get some interest and we’ll see where it takes me.”
