Talent has been exploding all summer in Ohio. Student athletes spend June playing with their schools and then they finish it off with the biggest tournaments in July. Point Guard Eric Boykin (2018), of Dayton, Ohio has really been stepping his game up a bit. The upcoming junior can score from the perimeter and in the paint. What stood out the most about the guard was his ability to defend.
“I have been guarding other team’s best players all summer and I have been limiting their ability to produce on offense which helps us win games” said Boykin.
Boykin transferred into Miamisburg High School at the end of last school year. Boykin was asked about how his summer was going. He said:
“Summer is going well. I really came into my own as a scorer at Miamisburg over the summer at shootouts and became a strong defender with my role with my AAU team Ohio Nova Village. We currently have two championships and we have one more tournament left is Las Vegas”.
While at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School, Boykin averaged 8.8 points a game, 1.6 assist a game and averaged 1 steal a game.
Eric has letters of interest from Kent State University, Liberty University, University of Findlay, and Ashland University. “Kent State and Liberty just increased their interest for me. I also just started drawing attention from Wright State University as well”. He is working to get offers and interest of more schools. I asked Eric what were his goals for the upcoming basketball season and he said:
“Win state, and make first team All-State”. His goals were that simple. He knew right away what his goals were for the season.
Miamisburg is a part of the GWOC National West conference as well as being a Division I school. Boykin will be a player to watch this upcoming season.
