Louisiana Class of 2018 Rankings Expanded
The Class of 2018 was in need of an update and expansion so we’ve got it up to 65 with the plan to update the rankings for 2017, 2018 and add 2019 between the end of the summer and before the school season starts. There is national talent, prospects waiting to burst onto the national scene, and depth that’ll fill the college ranks from High Majors to NAIA schools and everywhere in between.
This class has plenty of guards and size on the wings throughout the rankings and the athleticism is as evident as ever. Numerous players have used this summer to burst onto the scene and with July still left to play out and camp closing in, there is time for a big impact in the way of the rankings.
Players like Elijah Hampton (6’5 F, Grace Christian) and Brian White (5’10 PG, Natchitoches Central) have made their way onto the rankings and done so in a big way. They belonged before and part of the reason and update was so badly needed.
Rankings breakdowns will come throughout the next couple weeks but the top of the list is chopped full of guards and wing players with the occasional forward who spends the majority of his time around the rim mixed in. There aren’t many true centers at the top and the top center won’t see a basketball court at the next level (5 star offensive lineman).
This class is loaded with guys who can shoot the basketball where as 2017 has many more slashers than true shooters. Well over half of the Top 20 poise a real threat from beyond the arc and plenty more in the 65 listed can do so as well.
There are of course sleepers and guys who have risen lately and we’ll get to those in the coming weeks. For now, get to local gyms for tournaments and camps to see how these rising juniors begin to take control of their new roles for their respective high schools. July is often a big month for Louisiana prospects.
