He has a very strong frame and even though he is not very tall he doesn’t mind going inside to bang with the big fellas or taking it strong to the basket, throughout the games he got into the paint just about whenever he wanted and either finished with a bucket or assist. His ball handling skills were very impressive but what I like most about his game is that he didn’t try to overdo things with extra moves that weren’t needed which could lead to turnovers. Instead he made his move, got by his defenders and got the offense some easy looks and quick buckets, which is exactly what you want and need from your PG. On the defensive end he was just as impressive, really getting after it with his on-ball defense, causing turnovers, rushed plays, deflections, etc. He has very good lateral quickness and quick hands that makes things very difficult when you factor in how developed he is physically as well. Jalen will be one to keep an eye on to see how he continues to develop and performs as he plays Varsity for Southern Durham H.S.
Micah Jones (Class of 2020)-Last but certainly not least, Micah is another younger player that must be put on the watch list , in the 5 on 5 games is where he shine the most with his advanced offensive skills. He and Josh Austin put on a show in their matchup going back and forth scoring on consecutive possessions and really getting after it. Micah has decent height already but we expect to see him grow some more before it’s all said and done, he has impressive athleticism for a kid his age and knows how to score the ball pretty well. Will still need to tighten up on his ball handling some but throughout the game he was pretty solid with getting from Point A to Point B without turning the ball over. Even though he knocked down some shots from outside I would still consider him a slasher at this point, out of all the points he had, a good amount of them came from him getting in the paint and getting to the cup slashing. Defensively he’s got all the tools to be a very good defender if he stays locked in, he has a nice long wingspan and used the combo of that and his athleticism to come up with some blocks, Keep your eye on this man , he has a chance to be special if he stays focused and puts in the work.
