The camp is designed for High school & Middle school age young men to learn more about the game of basketball, work on their skills on the court and most importantly life skills off the court. During the morning of camp the players went through different types of skills and drill work to sharpen up their game, in the afternoon they played 5 on 5 games and then broke down into counseling sessions. Throughout the time I was present at camp I was very impressed with not only how the camp was run, but the talent level of players present, over the next few days we will discuss a few of the standout players and prospects.
Deondre Ross (Class of 2021) – Deondre was one of the younger players at camp but his skill and IQ for the game is very advanced, as soon as you see this young man play you can tell he spends time in the gym. What impressed me most about him was his play during the 1 on 1 matchups, he was guarded by much bigger players but found ways to score the ball on a consistent basis while only being allowed three dribbles. This young man is definitely one you will want to keep an eye on in the upcoming years, with a little bit of a growth spurt and addition of weight/muscle he may truly develop into a special player and prospect.
Brandon Dawe (Class of 2017)- Typically the older player at camp normally coast through drills and kind of plays with the attitude of being too cool to want to win because they feel as though they can turn it on at any given time. Well this wasn’t the case for Brandon, during 1 on 1 drills he went right at anybody who was guarding him and had in his mind that he wanted to win no matter what. He knocked down a good amounts of shots from midrange and deep, as well as getting inside and finishing at the cup. At about 6’3 he has solid size for the SG spot and already is receiving interest from, D2 and D3 programs, I personally would love to see him become a little more vocal as a leader and continue to develop as a player maker. As of now he is more of a scorer but I do believe he has the tools to be a playmaker so that coaches can slide him over to the PG spot in the future.
