Playing for both Perrysburg High School and NWO Hoops, that’s exactly the experience that Pohlman has had. He is enthusiastically welcoming even more responsibilities going forward into the upperclassmen ranks.
“We’re returning a decent amount of players, we lost Trevor [Hafner] … I’ll fill his shoes a little bit more. The whole team will have to fill in for him, but I’ll take some responsibility,” Pohlman said.
The versatile wing player, who carries a 3.6 GPA and started varsity as a sophomore last season, has not received the entire college basketball recruitment just yet. Should be only a matter of time before D-II and D-III programs begin dialing his number.
“I’m just starting the process. I’ve gotten a few emails just from some smaller D-II and D-III schools. But it’s nothing intense or anything like that,” Pohlman said.
What’s promising for a player like Pohlman is that there’s only so many prospects that are comfortable primarily operating from the perimeter at his size. And he may not be done growing.
“I have a well-rounded game. I rebound well for my position, and I’m improving as a shooter … My post game is good for my position. I pass really well. I have a good basketball IQ, I’m a student of the game. I’m very coachable, a good teammate and hard worker,” Pohlman said.
He went on to clarify that he is “not a finished product” and is focusing on building upon his wide-range of skills. Pohlman plans on being as versatile as possible, which will make it easy for a college coach to find a spot for him. He is comfortable guarding the opposing 2-4.
Given the expanded role for Perrsyburg going forward, there will plenty of opportunities for him to prove himself in the next few seasons. Guys with his love for the game and size don’t usually have trouble finding a college program. Our guess is that he’ll find a college home at some point, and will probably have both D-II and D-III options when the time comes.
