The slasher and defensive-minded junior-t0-be averaged 6.3 points per game last season as a sophomore with the Huskies, and has now crossed the border where he’ll join Coach Jason Isaacson and Council Bluffs Lincoln.
“I transferred because the classes were better, Lincoln has larger classes where you can learn more,” said Houghton. “And basketball-wise I thought that Coach Isaacson was a great coach. He wants me to get in the weight-room and improve everyday, things like that.”
A hard-nosed slasher, Houghton went on to define his playing style to PHI.
“I would consider myself as a small forward, a slasher. I can get physical, I really like to play defense, and I like to rebound. I consider myself an all-around player,” he said.
“I need to work on my basketball IQ, my 3-point shot, and my dribbling.”
Last season with Omaha Northwest Houghton was coming off the bench with the varsity, next season he’ll be starring with a Lynx team that will look to rebuild after last season’s state tournament run.
In the meantime he’ll spend his summer with Southwest Iowa Select 16U
“My role is to be a scorer with that team. And as far as the summer goes, I just want to put up some numbers and have fun,” said Houghton, who has not seen much recruitment just yet.
“I’ve seen on letter from a Division III school in Milwaukee, that’s is so far.”
“I’m thinking about it (recruitment) though. I just hope I can get some looks, and I‘m going to keep improving so I can get some more looks.”
