Drummond was scoring from the bounce and from deep, and also setting teammates up for success. All while adequately guarding the other team’s best player, Sam Allen.
We caught up with him after that game, and he defined his playing style in his own words.
“Mainly my 3-point shot is pretty good, and getting my teammates involved and getting them open shots, because I’ve got strong shooters around me,” said the 6-foot-1 point guard.
“My coach says the main thing I need to improve is my defense, so this summer I’ve taken defense very seriously. And having to guard the best player on every team this summer is going to make me a better defender next season.”
Last season as a sophomore Drummond split time with JV and varsity. He’s hoping for a starting role with the varsity this season.
“I’ve talked with my coach about me starting and proving to him at I can. We have 10 seniors coming back, so it will be hard to get into that starting position,” said Drummond. “So I’m trying to prove to him in tournaments like this that I can be a starting point guard for this team.”
This summer he will be playing with a newly put together Pure Prep squad that will play live period tournaments in Indiana and Las Vegas.
“I’m trying to get a college offer, and prove to people that I can actually play and show people who I am. I’ve never really been noticed before, so I’m just trying to let people know who I am,” said Drummond, who has seen no recruitment yet.
“My AAU coach says he’s going to try and help me get some college offers. He says if I put in the work I could get some college offers, so when I go to Las Vegas and some of these places we’ll see what happens.”
