The junior-to-be has been a star on the 16U circuit with Iowa Dynasty this spring, and was a key player with Iowa City West during its championship run a the Urbandale Shootout earlier this month.
His recruitment is not yet a priority for him, though he has seen a variety of mail, from Division I to Division III.
“I haven’t gotten any calls, and I’ve gotten a few letters; Wartburg, Bradley University, William Jewell College. And I’ve gotten a letter from Iowa, but I’m not sure what that’s really about,” said Sims.
“I haven’t really thought about it a lot, I just go out there and play my hardest I guess. I’m not really worried about recruitment right now, I’m going to be a junior, so I have two years left.”
Sims is a lengthy power forward, who can step out and hit a jumper at times. He defined his playing style to PHI.
“Really, I just try to board for my team, and try to get a lot of points from the inside — either from a post-up, or from putbacks. And if I need to I’ll go to the perimeter and occasionally shoot a little bit,” said Sims.
“Really what I’m trying to focus on right now is my inside post-moves, but I’m looking to improve my perimeter shooting also.”
As a key player with Iowa Dynasty 16U, Sims says his role is to crash the boards, and to score in a variety of ways.
“My role on that team is basically to rebound and take it up strong. We run a lot of five out also, so I also can drive and score that way,” said Sims, who is looking to simply have some fun with his guys this summer.
“To be honest I haven’t really thought of any goals I have for myself this summer. I don’t really have long-term goals right now really.”
Last season Sims was a big-man on Iowa City West’s sophomore squad. Next season he’ll make an impact with the varsity. A team that will again contend for a state title.
“I haven’t really talked to my coach that much, but what it’s looking like for the summer is I’ll be playing a big role at the five spot and mostly playing down low,” said Sims.
“I think I’m going to start, it’s a least a possibility – but I’m not sure.”
