He played with Des Moines North his sophomore season, and then transferred to Roosevelt for his junior season. There, he was a role player who averaged 5.5 points on 53 percent shooting, and 5.0 rebounds per game.
This next winter he will be one of the CIML’s best players, and the two college programs who have an inside track on him will be glad they do,
“I’ve been getting some stuff from University of Chicago, and I have a Grand View letter, and that’s pretty much it,” said Thomas.
“I’m not really thinking about it (recruitment) too much right now, but I need to. It’s something I do want to pursue.”
Thomas is a good-sized wing with some nice athleticism and strength, who can bang in the post or take guys off-the-dribble.
“Mostly I like rebounding,” said Thomas. “And then finding mismatches, like if I have a smaller guard on me I can post him up, or if I have a big on me I can take him outside.”
“Currently I’m working out in the weight room, just trying to get stronger so I can bang down low better. And then I’m working on my defense and my shot.”
Until his senior season begins in the fall, Thomas will be spending time playing with Iowa Elite’s 17U squad. A team he’s been playing with all spring.
“It’s been going pretty well,” said Thomas. “In July we’re going down to Las Vegas and hopefully we can play well. And I’m just hoping to keep getting better and working on my jump-shot.”
