Matt then joined Ryan Larson to run the Howard Pulley 16U team in the backcourt and so far the year has produced value for Todd although he would like to add a few more wins.
“I thought our team under achieved a little bit throughout the spring and lost some games we should’ve won,” Todd said about the spring. “For me I think I’ve improved at playing off the ball and being a threat even when I’m not playing point guard and having the ball all the time like in high school.”
What the past several months have shown Todd is there are some specific things that he wants to work on.
“My biggest thing I need to work on I think is just getting stronger but I’d also like to improve as a catch and shoot guy and keep working on my ball handling and pull up jumper,” Todd explained.
Matt’s outstanding playmaking ability has him on the radar of several programs.
“Some of the programs who have talked with either my high school coach or the Howard Pulley organization are Minnesota, Iowa State, North Dakota State, North Dakota, Wofford, and Winthrop. Briar Cliff and Sioux Falls have also sent me letters,” Matt said.
Todd returns this winter to the Magic along with sophomore Rezi Useh (a sophomore who scored 5.6 a game), freshman Hunter Rosenbaum (scored four points a game and was the team’s second leading rebounder), and senior Carter Hangsleben (five points and four rebounds a contest).
“The expectation is to be back at state,” said Todd about next year. “We will be a young group but I think with the mix of the talent we have up and coming and the guys returning that we should be a tough team to beat next year.”
