Continue Reading2017 Gwynn Park (MD) point guard Justin Faison has developed strong court vision headed into his senior year, following a junior campaign in which he stepped up as leader of his team.
The 5-10 point guard has gained plenty of attention at the D-2 level through an offer from St. Thomas Aquinas, alongside interest from both Concordia (NY) and Franklin Pierce.
His last season with Gwynn Park went very well, after he transferred over from Bishop McNamara (MD).
“I had a really great year. I transferred from Bishop McNamara. I was on the JV team there sophomore year. And I came into the starting role with a very good and talented team,” said Faison. “My coach really had trust in me, and he told me that I was the best guard in the 2A Region. I really took that to heart, and I started working at that; being a great point guard and lifting my teammates.”
Lifting his teammates is what the point guard does best through his court vision to find the right pass for any easy shot, or to throw the opposing defense off.

The ability to decipher the defense and find openings allows the point guard to hit shots whether it be a jumper or his popular three-pointer.
“I try to get as close as I can [to the basket] in a game,” said Faison. “But if the defense is backing off me, I’m a very good three-point shooter. I shot over 40% on the year last year. People call me a ‘sniper’ when I’m shooting the three. I’m pretty lethal back there if you leave me open. I prefer a jump shot, but I won’t turn down too many threes.”
However, ‘the sniper’ sees his best skills not necessarily on the offensive end.
“For me personally, I believe I’m a very good passer, my court vision, and I’m a defender. I defend first, then score,” said the Gwynn Park player.
Now playing this summer with Bump N Run, Faison views each day as an opportunity to improve his game in preparation for the next level.
“I want to improve by becoming a better defender each and every day. At the next level, I know I’m a good defender now, but there can be guards that are better offensively, so I’m going to have to be able to shut them down.”
With one D-2 offer already in hand, Faison is sure to draw more D-2 and D-3 eyes as we head later into the summer.
