What are your goals for this summer with Team CP3 and with Greensboro Day for next season?
John Newman III: My goals for the summer are just to show people what I can do. Kind of make a jump into the top-tier player category. Also to pick up as many offers as possible and to of course win Peach Jam in that first week of July. For Greensboro Day one of my goals is just to help lead my team to a state championship and win it. Hopefully make it to Dick’s Nationals again and make some noise.
What are your strengths and what do you see yourself needing to improve on?
John Newman III: My strengths are my mid-range shooting, high basketball IQ, on ball defense, attacking in transition and my three-point shot. Expect me to be showcasing all of that in July. I need to improve my elite ball handling skills and work on getting stronger and more explosive.
What school is calling you the most and who do you have the best relationship with?
John Newman III: Recently Georgetown has been the school that has been in contact the most. I don’t nesscessarily have a great relationship with any colleges right now, but we’ll see what happens on June 15th.
What player would you compare your game to?
John Newman III: I would compare my game to Richard Hamilton or Theo Pinson. Pinson because of the fact that we are long, can do a lot of different things. Shoot, defend, and attack.
The new ESPN rankings are out and you were not mentioned in the Class of 2018. What does that do to fuel you?
John Newman III: I usually dont pay attention to the rankings becuase ESPN is not out there producing. That number isnt going to give you any sort of advantage when you’re on the court. I Love It!!! All of my life I have been doubted, I’ve been doubted by everyone, even some of my closest friends. If it wasn’t for that and gettign slept on I probably wouldn’t be the player I am today. Slick little comments people make towards me about basketball, when they doubt me, I ALWAYS remember and that keeps me going. It’s never easy for me to take, not being in the top 60, but I love the chase. It does nothing but make me better.
What school have you not heard from yet that you would love to hear from?
John Newman III: Duke. Thier style of play is very intriguing for shooting guards. They play at a pretty up and down pace, really wide open game which suits me. Not to mention the academics are top notch and they have a beautiful campus on site and a great fan base.
Who is the best player that you have played against so far?
John Newman III: Besides Kentucky recruit Bam Bam Adebayo I would have to go with Jairus Hamilton. He killed us. If you can give Greensboro Day twenty plus points you are the real deal.
What is going to be the most important reason for picking a school when that time comes?
John Newman III: How well I fit into their system.
