Though he played mostly with the JV last season as a sophomore, he’s had a successful spring on the grassroots circuit, and a couple schools — one Division II and a Division III — have taken notice.
“It’s really just some small schools so far. I’ve got interest from Pfeiffer University and Montclair State, those are the only schools that have been in consistent contact; emails, phone calls, just touching base and getting to know me a little bit better,” said McCorn, who is completely dedicated to getting a basketball scholarship.
“I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything other than basketball with my life, so that’s my biggest thing is getting to play at the next level for free. And I’m going to make sure that I get the proper exposure to make sure I go to the school that I want to go to.”
A floor general who takes pride in being a distributor and setting up teammates, McCorn defined his playing style to PHM.
“I like to use my athleticism to get out in transition. I love to set my teammates up and get them going first. I’ll score when the opportunity presents itself, but I consider myself to be a true point guard and a pass-first point guard,” said McCorn.
“I definitely need to continue to get more explosive and extend my range. I feel like I have pretty good range on the catch-and-shoot, but just being able to pull-up and step-back, and being able to get my shot off whenever is something I’m going to have to do if I want to get to the next level.”
After a successful spring with Team Dedication, McCorn is eager to get back with the guys just July, and says simply getting better is the goal.
“I’m just going to continue to work on my game and get better with my teammates, we have workouts two or three times a week, and our goal is to just get better every day.”
After his 16U summer ends a month from now, he will start to focus on his junior season with the Vikings.
“I didn’t play very much in varsity last season, but I played a lot with JV and played very well,” said McCorn. “I was the go-to guy whenever the team needed a bucket. This upcoming year I’m just looking to do the same thing on varsity and just step-up my game. And if I could be the leader of the team, then that would be big for me.”
