Continue ReadingByway of a heavy summer training regiment focused on becoming more explosive, Isaiah Gable (2017) is looking to transition into a shooting guard. The 6’6” prospect from Greenvile High School has always played the wing, but shaping his skills to become a prototypical two-guard would bolster his size advantage.
“Right now I’m at the three. Trainer Brooks [Hall], he’s trying to move me more to the two. Be more comfortable bringing the ball up … just making me more comfortable coming off ball-screens, creating my own shot off the bounce and stuff. I’ve been working on it ever since school ball got out,” Gable said.
Gable, who travels with Ohio Basketball Club (OBC) in the summer, holds offers from Cedarville, Northwood, and Notre Dame College.
It’s likely other D-I and D-II programs will round-out a large list of options going forward. He has plenty of other programs contacting him: Army, Air Force, Elon, High Point, Campbell, Akron, Penn University, Wright State, American University, and Western Illinois.
“I actually just went down to North Carolina, took a visit to High Point and Elon. I also played later in the week at High Point and Elon’s elite camps,” Gable said.
While he has guard skills, Gable has been told by colleges that they could see him guarding the opposing power forward in certain line-ups.
“I could play the four. I know some schools these days are going to a smaller line-up, trying to spread the floor. Four out, one in. So, that’s what I’ve heard from a lot of colleges, that I could play the four through the two.”
“I think my role at the next level will just be someone who can spread the floor. I can knock down shots. I can drive and kick for other players, create other shots,” Gable said.
Regardless of position, Gable is a stud of a basketball player. On any given possession, he will hurt the defense from a number of spots on the floor.
He put up 19.0 points per game last season on 47% from the field and 81% from the line, while averaging 6.7 rebounds.
He also carries a 3.8 GPA, which is another sign that Gable takes his future seriously.
He will lead the charge next season for Greenville High School, so there will plenty of opportunity for colleges to see him perform freely on the court. In the short term, he will be in Ashland on Friday for a shoot-out.
Again, there are plenty of schools interested in Gable. The guy is going to have options. So, what is he looking for in a school?
“Just somewhere I can see myself fitting in whenever, if I go there. The playing style and everything. The relationships with coaches,” Gable responded.
