However, by the end of the year, the team managed to make its way all the way to their sectional semifinals. One of the biggest reasons for the team’s growth is Senior to be 2017 6’6″ PF/C Geoff Hibbitt.
Hibbitt has caught the attention of many coaches and fans around the state due to his great footwork on the block. This past season, he averaged by 8 points per game and a little over 5 rebounds per game en route to being named an All-Section Honorable Mention.
Even though he did some nice things this past year, he received little interest with many coaches questioning his motor and physicality. He has a good frame, but seemed passive at times. Over the Spring and Summer, there has been a change in his demeanor in a positive way. He is playing far more aggressively than he has in the past. In addition, colleges are taking notice.
Although Hibbitt does not have any college offers to this point, a couple of schools have reached out to express interest in him. His size, footwork, and ability to extend the court with an improving mid-range shot make him an intriguing prospect. Add to it that he is playing the game much more physically than he has in the past.
Hibbitt currently plays for Arizona United/Team Bayless for club basketball. The team is hoping to make trips to California as well as Las Vegas during the live period in July. This should be a great chance for Hibbitt to demonstrate his growth and attract suitors.
As far as playing at Ironwood is concerned, Geoff’s goal is to make it to the state tournament. “My expectations for the team are to never give up on each other and to make each other better basketball players.” Hibbitt will play a huge role in the success of Ironwood’s team this next year as he is a strong leader who pushes his teammates, listens well, and wants to improve.
