Continue ReadingWestview High School may have a claim to the toughest season out of any Division II team last season as they are very well coached and had plenty of talent. However, they lost many close games down the stretch. In fact, they lost 12 games by 10 points or less. Although this must have been quite a difficult year for the team, the team returns many talented players. With that said, the teams most talented and highest ceiling player is 6’3″ PG Sophomore D’maurian Williams.
Williams possesses great length, a solid handle, and a good basketball IQ. He is decisively fast as he seems to glide from point A to point B. Moreover, as a freshman, he demonstrated a great ability to handle pressure and physical defenses. He did a great job of using a single or double move, attacking the defenders shoulder, and getting into the paint. In addition, he shot the ball from behind the three point line at a higher rate toward the end of the season.
He needs to continue to improve his quickness and defense. With that said, he is young and the athleticism will catch up with him. Also, he has the length that would assist him in being a top tier defender. As he matures, physically and mentally, he has great potential to be one of the top tier defensive point guards in the entire state.
Although Williams is a very talented high school prospect who appears to have an ability to play this game after high school at a high level, he has yet to receive interest or be contacted by any schools. With that said, he is relatively early in the recruiting process as he is only going to be a Sophomore.
Currently, Williams participates on the Arizona Factory club team. As I have watched him play this off-season, it is safe to say that he has taken his game to another level. He is playing more physical, offensively and defensively. He is also shooting the basketball with more consistency from beyond the ark.
Williams is one of, if not the top, guard prospects in the 2019 class. His growth as a player should be quite interesting to watch as he has a really high ceiling. He has great length and skill – as the athleticism continues to come and if the work ethic is what it should be, he should be playing this game after high school.
