Dexter Dennis is a highlight waiting to happen every time he steps onto the court but there is much more to his game as he develops than just the otherworldly leaping ability. Standing at 6’5, he possesses the quickness to stay in front of defenders or get around them once the skillset improves.
In April he didn’t get to showcase every ability but did have moments and flashes of making things happen. This past weekend with EP Elite, he stepped his game up and even showed off the ever improving jump shot. Understanding where he is currently, he had this to say about the summer, “Any aspect of my game that I can work on at this point, I’ll do it. Overall I just want to become a better player and be able to show it this July.”
Athleticism is one thing but his body control make those crazy plays even more feasible. Once he improves his handles beyond straight line handling, he won’t be as reliant on others to get where he wants to on the court. There is little doubt that there is college basketball in his future and a quick YouTube search will show you exactly why. He’s heard from Southern Illinois college wise and even national schools like Montverde to play more prep ball at. “Productivity. I just want to be able to be productive at what I do and what ever else that team wants me to do.” That’s the goal going forward.
Dennis is a 6’5 wing who currently has a 3.7 GPA with a 21 on the ACT and was named to the LSWA Class 1A All-State 2nd team with 14 points per game. He helped lead Southern Lab to the Class 1A state title game before falling to Arcadia. With most of the team returning, Southern Lab will be a force again in 1A. Look for his recruitment to pick up come July.
