He moved to St. Cloud after spending his childhood in Coon Rapids, and he began playing hoops in 9th grade. Since then, he has made great strides each summer as he furiously works on his skills.
Now, Deang is a 6-foot-4 wing who spent the year on Sauk Rapids-Rice’s JV due to transfer rules (he came over from Apollo). He has found an AAU home with the Comets, and he can see himself improving quickly.
“Comets 16U have been going really well,” Deang said. “I have been getting more explosive and getting more comfortable with my team, I have been getting more exposure from my games and in-game dunks on people. I have been improving my athleticism, strength, handles, footwork, and all-around game.
“I workout at least three times a day to get better. My defense is pretty good, I talk a lot and let my teammates know what’s going on. I like to be a leader and do my team right.”
Plug him in next to 6-foot-6 forward Cody Landwehr (also a junior-to-be), and the size at Sauk Rapids-Rice is looking very promising.
“This year I have a very big role to be a leader,” Deang said, “and to work with Cody… we play very well together, we have a pick and roll game that is getting better. I am still adapting to being one of the main men of the team.”
A great opportunity to watch Deang with Comets Servaty would be the Great Plains Alliance, a St. Cloud-based tournament that begins on Thursday of this week.
