Continue ReadingDaniel Oturo is all about growth. Physically he seems taller and longer every day. Production wise he averaged a double-double for a solid Cretin-Derham Hall team and is now a key low post talent for the Howard Pulley Panthers.
The 6-foot-8 Oturo also looks stronger, more confident, and is getting more skilled. Daniel Oturo is a top Midwest and Minnesota talent and he’s just getting started.
Oturo gave the CDH Raiders 16.8 points, 14.6 rebounds, and 5.8 rebounds a game shooting 64 percent from the field for a 20-8 team that won many more games than anybody expected considering their youth.
Now he is coming off the bench shooting 53 percent from the floor in the EYBL giving the 32-2 Panthers five points and five boards a contest.
“The spring went well with my AAU team,” Oturo said. “We were undefeated through three sessions on the Nike Eybl circuit. We lost two games at Session four but were more than ready to keep working hard towards the Peach Jam.
“This spring helped me a lot because I played against some top level competition and it’s just helped me grow as a player. Learning different skills to add to my game.”
Like we said Oturo is just getting started. He’s already a physical player who plays an inspired game around the hoop and when he adds more skill and core strength the sky is the limit.
“I would like to improve my three point game and ball handling, but mostly my all-around game. I feel like all parts of my game needs to be worked on to make the best player I can be.”
Oturo picked up his first scholarship offer recently from Northern Iowa and they are one of several schools talking to him.
“I’m going to be visiting Northern Iowa soon,” said Oturo. “And I’m also going to set up a visit to the University of Minnesota. But I’ve been hearing from good schools, I’ve talked to Wisconsin recently and University of Iowa has been in contact.”
Oturo has taken a handful of visits to the local school, the University of Minnesota.
“I think highly of the coaches at Minnesota,” Oturo said. “And my interest in the University of Minnesota is that I would like to visit there and see how much I’d like it there and just try to build relationships with the coaches.”
