Carmichael’s “coming out party” seemed to happen around this time last year at the Arizona Christian University team camp where he posted multiple games with over 20 points and over 7 assists. He impressed many with his ability to change pace and change direction with the basketball. In addition, he was able to get into the paint seemingly at will. Moreover, his quickness and toughness made him a menace on the defensive end.
He has since enjoyed much success at the high school and club levels as he averaged almost 12 points per game and 5 assists. He was recognized as an honorable mention in his section and a second team player for his district. However, there was still speculation about his ability to play at the next level as he needed to improve his shooting from behind the line and his strength. Carmichael has spent the entire off-season working on these two things and has improved his strength as well as his shooting abilities considerably.
When asked what he needs to work on in order to play at the next level, he immediately responded, “Everything. I can’t play at the college level today and be productive consistently without improving all areas of my game.” This quote says a lot about Carmichael’s game and demeanor as he is a very humble young man who has a work ethic that is second to none.
Carmichael has received some interest from colleges; however, he has yet to receive his first offer. He is hopeful that playing strong basketball during the live period correlates to him having some opportunities to continue to play this game at the next level. To coaches, “I bring commitment, leadership, a good work ethic, and loyalty.”
As far as his current interests are concerned, Cody has been working very hard to ensure that he is ready to assist Ironwood in winning some games next season. His goal for the upcoming season is to “stay healthy and compete with the best teams.” His an ultimate competitor who hates to lose.
As it currently stands, a number of college coaches have discussed Cody’s potential at the next level. Most seem to believe that he is a NCAA Division-II or NAIA Division-I/II player. He should be successful in attaining some sort of offer by the end of the live period as he brings many intangibles that a college coach wants out of a guard. He is a floor general who is the coach on the court and can do an array of things offensively and defensively.
