He’s been putting his skills on display all spring with Minnesota Select, and NHR was at the Gopher Team Camp where Smith was shooting as well as ever. We went and got in touch with him after this weekend’s games with his Champlin Park teammates.
“Gopher camp was so fun! It seems like our chemistry got better and we are still missing some players, but we are definitely ready for the season,” Smith told NHR. “Over the summer I’ve been working a lot on my midrange, scoring off the dribble and creating space, on-ball defense and becoming more of a true point and getting stronger.”
The 5-foot-7 senior-to-be is getting calls from colleges across the midwest.
“Right now I’m hearing from St. John’s (MN), Gustavus, and College of St. Scholastica the most. But lately I’ve heard from Bethany Lutheran, Minot State, Saint Mary’s (MN), Northland and Waldorf asked for my number.”
Upcoming visits include Saint Mary’s and College of St. Scholastica later this week along with return visits to Gustavus and St. John’s in the fall.
“Coaching staffs are big for me,” Smith said, “and the school’s culture… also a team’s offense and how they would want to use me. And academics, of course. I’m not really pinned on staying in the Midwest, but if I have the best opportunity in the Midwest, I’ll take it.”
