Continue ReadingOne of the most sought after recruits in the 2019 class out of North Carolina is BJ Mack. The 6-foot-8, 255lb power forward shook up the Charlotte area basketball landscape a few weeks ago with the news of his transfer from 3-A state champion Charlotte Catholic to Charlotte Christian.
He will be teaming up at Charotte Christian with another top 2019 recruit in JC Tharrington and 2017 guard Rob Peterson (son of former UNC Tar Heel Buzz Peterson).
Mack plays for Team United on the summer circuit of the Nike EYBL. He will be coached at Charlotte Christian by Shonn Brown, who coached NBA MVP Stephen Curry and Seth Curry at the same school.
Blessed with great low-post footwork, an ability to grab a lot of rebounds, and size that can’t be taught are the upside to the rising sophomores game. His list of offers are from high-major programs so far and include Georgia, NC State and Virginia Tech. Unofficial visits include Duke, Carolina, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Clemson and NC State.
“I liked all the schools, the things that stood out for me was how the school interacted with the team and other sports.”
With a new school and new coach next season at Charlotte Christian, Mack has some goals he wants to accomplish. “My goals are to get better with my overall game and to have fun and to win games. I want to help my teammates overall game improve so they can looked at by the schools that want to go to.”
The list of schools who have been in contact with the big recruit are a “who’s who of basketball programs. Georgia, Virginia Tech,Duke, North Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, Virginia, Notre Dame, Xavier, Richmond, Arizona, Georgetown, Wake Forest, NC State, Louisville, Kansas, Kentucky Ohio State and Syracuse.
Look for Mack to be a name you hear among the top recruits in North Carolina again next season.
