He sat out the first half of last season after switching schools, and did not play any varsity with an Ankeny program that was chock-full of senior talent.
Still, the Kingdom Hoops product and incoming junior has picked up a little bit of attention from area NAIA programs.
“I’ve got two letters so far; one from Morningside and another from Nebraska Wesleyan, they invited me to their elite camp and they’ve shown a lot of interest,” said the 2018 wing.
“I hope to get a scholarship offer by the end of July, that’s a goal. Still, it’s something I just need to keep working on and just keep trying to improve. If I could stay under the radar a little longer and then explode with some new skill-sets I’m working on, that’d be fine too.”
With the bevy of seniors graduating from Ankeny, it would appear that Lyon will move into a pivotal role next season on a new-look Hawks squad.
“We don’t have a big guy, so that forces me to play a little bit bigger,” said Lyon. “And I play the four in a bunch of sets, and we also play five out at times – so that gives me the opportunity to get the ball on the perimeter and slash.”
Lyon will continue to hone his skills this summer with Kingdom Hoops Red 16U, and has one specific goal in mind for his junior season with the Hawks.
“Drew (Maschoff) is obviously our guy this season, but I think if I can lead this team in rebounding that’d be my goal,” said Lyon. “And then I think my points are going to come.”
