Continue ReadingDes Moines Christian guard Ben Juhl has quickly and substantially been rising up the 2017 rankings over the past six months, and currently finds himself as Iowa’s 27th-ranked in the class.
Because of his exceptional play throughout his junior season with the Lions and his stellar spring with Kingdom Hoops Elite, his recruitment has spiked. And Division schools — as well as some D1s — are hot on his trail.
“In the past month I’ve probably had interest from; Yale, Queens University (NC), Sioux Falls, Quincy University, Southwest Minnesota State, Lincoln Memorial, St. Mary’s University (MN), and then I’ve gotten some emails from UNI and Drake,” said Juhl, who detailed his D1 interest.
“Yale has sent me a couple letters, and one was inviting me to their elite camp. And then UNI and Drake have sent letters, and Drake invited me to their elite camp.”
Juhl mentioned that he’ll be attending the Drake elite camp, and mentioned which two schools he feels may be clsoest to extending an offer.
“I’ve gotten three calls so far from Southwest Minnesota State, so I think they’re the heaviest recruiting of the D2s. And then Sioux Falls sends me letters pretty much every week and then they’re texting me a lot — so I think those are the top two.”
He added: “Obviously you’re hoping for a great summer, so you can pick up that recruitment, and then you can narrow it down to a school that fits best for me and how I play.”
It was last season, as a junior, when Juhl really started to make his mark — averaging 18.9 points on 60 percent shooting, and connecting on 45 percent of his 3s.
“I kind of was a little bit surprised, but going into the season after my summer and fall I kind of had a feeling it was going to be a pretty big year, and I knew I was going to have to step up. But I was kind of surprised that it was such a breakout season,” said Juhl, who is now spending his time running with one of the Midwest’s best teams, Kingdom Hoops 17U Elite.
“It’s a lot of fun, we’re all very close. And pretty much everyone on the team is stars with their high school teams, and major scorers. So coming into the spring we all had to find our roles. And my role is to handle the ball and knock-down shots when I’m open, and then create for other teammates too.”
