As we all know the amount of true point guards that are still around these days is very slim and has been replaced with scoring guards such as Steph Curry, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, etc. So when you cross paths with a younger player that is a true point guard, you definitely have to take notice and appreciate what that player brings to the table. That is exactly what we have found in Talton Jones, the 6’1 Point Guard from Fayetteville has a nice mixture of flair and substance to his game. He has a high amount of potential that could lead to him being a very special player and a top PG prospect in the state of North Carolina. He has solid ball handling skills that he uses to get to the spots that he wants to get to, and does a solid job of not over dribbling or doing multiple moves to create space. The attribute that automatically catches attention when watching Talton play is his passing ability, his court vision is well advanced beyond his age, he has the ability to read defense well and make the on point pass with ease. He also understands ways to get into the gaps of zone defense and force the opposition to collapse so that he’s able to make the kick out pass to teammates on the wing and in the post. To be plain and simple Talton not only has the ability to make great passes but if definitely seems as if he enjoys passing the ball more than scoring. Another impressive attribute of Talton’s game that is impressive is his defensive ability, He has a long wingspan that he knows how to use to come up with steals and deflection as well as good lateral quickness. As a young player he takes pride on that end of the floor and it showed in his stat line throughout the high school season, his shot will need to become more consistent but overall he is definitely one that Division 1 college should keep a close eye on.
Stats from 2015-2016 Season: 9.8 Points, 4.1 Assist, 5.6 Rebounds
Quotes from Talton’s AAU & HS Coaches: ”Talton is the perfect teammate, his only mission on the court is to make everyone better. He facilitates with his dynamic passes and is very unselfish with the ball, however he can score with a really good mid range pull-up and floater in the lane. He is an extension of his coach on the court”
– Coach Parker (Fayetteville Elite)
”He is a hard worker with no complaints. Very high basketball IQ and loves the competition”
-Coach Mims ( EE Smith HS)
