Recruiting Profile: Jon Gauer (2017)
Name: Jon Gauer
School: Fayetteville Academy
AAU Team: Team Loaded
Class: 2017
The Idea of a true student athlete is constantly preached to our high school athletes in this state and even all over the country, although many hear the message not many actually apply the message. However when we speak of a young man by the name of Jon Gauer it is very clear that he not only has heard the message but has applied it to his life. Jon is a 6’4 Wing Player in the Class of 2017 at Fayetteville Academy in Fayetteville, NC who has over a 4.0 GPA in the classroom while being impressive on the court as well.
After having a somewhat quiet Freshman and Sophomore year at North Raleigh Christian Academy, Jon came in to Fayetteville Academy is Junior and put together some very impressive performances to help his team reach the Conference Semi- Finals and almost a bid to the State Tournament. Jon is a very athletic player that knows how to get to the basket easily with minimal dribbles, although his jumper can be streaky at times, once he gets going he can knock down shots from the perimeter at a pretty consistent rate. On the defensive end he has solid lateral quickness and uses his athleticism to come up with blocks above the rim as well as steals in the passing lanes. At this point his college recruitment has been rather quiet but he has caught the attention of several Ivy League programs as well as some Low Major Division one and High Division two schools.
2015/2016 Season Stat Line: 22.5 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2.3 Steals Per game
Quote from Jon’s High School Coach James Strong: ‘‘Jon has improved greatly over the past year and is a very coachable/ overall good teammate. It’s been a pleasure to have him with us, he’s one of those kids that you is know is going to handle his business on the court and in the classroom.’’
