Shemer Adams (Grassroots MN/St. Paul Johnson). A scoring explosion. That is what Shemer introduced himself to Minnesota with today. Scored 30 points on 9 of 16 shooting that included five treys and seven free throws. A couple of the triples were from NBA range and many of his scores at the rim were full court transition bursts out-racing the defense and then extending ahead with an arm to finish before the defense could get the angle. One of several Johnson 2018 players that are going to make the Governors very good the next two years.
Terrell Adams (Suns/Washburn). About a 6-foot-1 wing (hair included) that caught my attention the way he pushed the pace and led transition. Finished a few of those transitions on his own and was on the Suns top scorers but I liked the way he closed gaps defensively on and off the ball leading to turnovers that allowed those transition chances.
Markel Aune (Kennedy/Powerhouse MN). Markel is the same grade as many of the 16U guards but against Grassroots he had the look of a player much more physically mature in strength, decision making, and facial hair as well I suppose. When he was attacking with a head of steam nobody wanted to step in front of him so Markell was able to get to the front of the rim to score four times plus hit a pair of treys.
Beau Bailey (Lakeville South/Powerhouse MN). Very interesting prospect in a lot of ways. Good build for a 2018 at about 6-foot-3 I would guess. Strong athlete who scored his 13 points on perfect five for five shooting. Make three shots at the arc and scored actively twice getting to space ahead of the help defense and getting the ball to the rim before the contesting D could react. Based on this showing Beau has the athletic ability, size, and developing skill to be a good prospect for the Cougars going forward.
Jordan Belka (Comets Servaty/Rogers). Jordan has prospect written all over him because he is an agile 6-foot-6/6-foot-7 forward who moves extremely well. Still pretty raw and we aren’t quite sure how he is production wise but as far as being a prospect in size and agility it’s clear.
Deng Deang (Comets Servaty/Sauk Rapids-Rice). He had a four step run at a guy and completely threw it down over the top. Best dunk of Saturday morning. Deng is about a 6-foot-4, long armed guard with explosive agility. Score four times going at the rim when we were observing and is definitely a prospect that will be ranked highly in next ranking set.
Zachary Fincher (WC United/Stephen-Argyle). Fincher is every bit of the listed 6-foot-6 and he’s the type of agile power forward with a strong core who also moves well so he’s moving guys out of the post and holding them down to catch entry passes. Gets up and down very well at his size and has the look of a future scholarship tight end or d-lineman.
Jack Greives (Fury Antl/Prior Lake). A 6-foot-3 forward that was the lifeblood of the Fury press rotating spot to spot to trap and helping force several late turnovers. Spent as much time diving on the ground as he did upright. Also had an attacking finish that was one of the biggest plays down the stretch.
Kyler Kluge (Comets Stumpf/Eden Prairie). Kluge put forth some late game heroics once again pushing the Comets through a tough game with WC United and scoring a corner jumper and two contested drives to push them ahead for good. Another late game highlight reel for a guy who has a knack for making late game plays.
Thomas Lecy (Powerhouse MN/Orono). A shooter who did his job well against Grassroots. Lecy caught and hit at the arc three times early to build the lead and hit another later in the game to give him a dozen points. A shooter to know.
Phil Rebrovich (Comets Servaty/Hibbing). The Comets don’t make it to the last few minutes against Fury Antl if Phil didn’t have the scoop finish, the elbow jumper, the two boards in traffic, and a steal. Looks more like a football prospect but Phil works his tail off as a 6-foot-4 center.
Griffin Sage (Powerhouse MN/Mound-Westonka). Griffin has always been ahead of the curve because he was physically ready early and quite skilled at an early age. Used his size and skill to score a team high 15 points on seven shots but also used his experience playing so much varsity basketball to get into space away from the ball and produce. In transition he sprinted ahead of the defense to the corner or baseline to get ready for scores and he positioned himself well off the ball to physically bump off his man and quickly get to the right space to make a play.
Zion Sanford (Grassroots MN/Mpls North). It’s rare to see a guy cover so much ground and make so many acrobatic finger rolls but that is what Zion entertained the crowd with today. Simply too fast for on ball defenders at this age and there is no way a help defender or a double team can slow him. Too quick. Had 15 points and seven assists.
Luke Siwek (Fury Antl/Rosemount). Hit the biggest shot of the game in the win over Comets Servaty knocking out a late trey that gave the Fury a lot of life to get the win. Also did a great job defending late as Fury full court pressured their way to the victory.
Callen Wright (Comets Servary/Mora). Let’s get to the point, his failed Steph Curry impression will never be forgotten. No way to get around it. But a nice lead guard with a good build and a history of point production already as a 6-foot-1 guard.
Ethan Youso (Comets Servaty/Virginia). Youso was able to get position against the WC United players and used his quick feet and agility to spin left shoulder into a balanced baby hook with a one hand well placed finish. That happened twice late and he made some late game free throws. Big moments for a developing post who has now shown range on his touch and a low post finishing abilit
