Kyler Kluge, Comets/Eden Prairie — Energetic, smooth, shifty, and a flat-out scorer. Kluge is a personal favorite of mine because he’s just fun to watch. He is especially good at changing gears while on the go in the open floor. I could see him really emerging for EP next winter.
Garrett Jensen, WC United/Minnewaska — Going into the Comets/WC game, you’d probably assume that the top 16U Comets would speed past WC. But WC held on until the very end, with much thanks to Jensen and his 13 second half points.
Beau Bailey, Powerhouse 16U/Lakeville South — Beau has a great jumper and already proved to me that he’s a catch-and-shoot contributor for any team he’s with. Add him in with Sorenson, Mitchell, Cade, and you’ve got a great core at South.
Zion Sanford, Sizzle/North — A 5-7 guard who might be a part of the changing of the guard at North this winter. Zion played his heart out Saturday night, especially with a crazy up-and-under layup against a much taller defender that was almost impossible. I’m excited to see where his career goes.
Markel Aune, Powerhouse 16U/Kennedy — Markel already has 1,000 points in his Kennedy career. You can see why when he plays with Powerhouse. The kid is very creative with how he scores, and he’s got a constant motor. He reminds me a bit of Amar Miller, but already stronger hypsically.
Sunday
Matt Hurt, D1 MN 16U/Roch JM — Matt played “down” to the 16Us today and caught the body of all bodies. For those unfamiliar with youthful terms, he had a transition and-one dunk that was heard ‘round the gym. It was nuts.
Anders Nelson, D1 MN 16U/Edina — Crafty. Anders and Cal are very fun to watch together… in transition they are quick and cohesive.
Chase Grinde, Heat Vang/Spring Grove — Chase earned major toughness points today as he battled through a physical game with Powerhouse and put away four key points at the end to lock up a triple-overtime game. He sustained multiple hits to the face and body and never once complained. Small town grit!
Josiah Strong, Powerhouse 16U — Strong put on a shooting clinic for Powerhouse with five threes in one half. Several Champlin kids are showing today that they are in a good position to contribute next year.
