On June 18, 2016 Methodist University held its team camp that featured Teams from Cumberland County and the Eastern side of the state of North Carolina. Throughout the day there were numerous players that were impressive but the position that seemed to be the most impressive was the guard position. Listed below are a few players that truly stood out and are players that colleges should keep a close eye on throughout the season and upcoming years. A special thank you to the staff at Methodist University for bringing this event to Fayetteville and for all the hard work that it took to make this possible.
Fayetteville Academy 2019 Guard Jon Wright- Jon is a young man who has improved greatly over the past few seasons, he plays the game with a lot of confidence and has what I would define as sneaky athleticism for a player. Although he is under 6’ tall he makes plays above the rim easily and finishes dunks in traffic with no problem. He has a very smooth jump shot with textbook for that he knocks down at a high rate from midrange and three point range. He is constantly talking throughout the game and does not back down from any challenge no matter who he is matched up with on any given night. On the defensive end he really gets after it and takes each defensive matchup personally, he loves to compete and will be a player to keep a very close eye on.
Pine Forest HS 2019 Point Guard Jordan Gladney- This was my first time seeing Jordan Play with his high school team and I must say that we was very impressive and looks like a player that we will need to keep an eye on. He is a true point guard that score the ball well but looks to get his teammates going first and brings energy on both ends of the floor. The attribute that stuck out most to me about Jordan was his communication on the floor, he was constantly directing teammates where to go, talking with his coach, encouraging his teammates, etc. Many times younger guards don’t understand how important this is but he is definitely ahead of the game. He has smooth ball handling skills and does a great job of making on point passes to his teammates at the right time so that they can score with ease.
