Whether it’s by: Points, Blocks, Rebounds, Steals, and so on, many people tend to think that great stats equals great performance. Although this may not be the truth all the time, there definitely is a respect for the guy who have great stats and win games at the same time or a player who can lead their league in more than one stat category. Which leads us to Nate ‘‘Tiny“ Archibald, many know him as a great Point Guard that won many games but some don’t know that he is the only player to have led the NBA scoring and assist in 1973.
County Player Of The Year
So as you can see it’s difficult at any position to lead a league in both categories however that is exactly what A.J Baldwin from Cape Fear H.S did this past season. Not only did A.J led his league in both of those categories but he also led all of the Public school in Cumberland County in Points and Assist per game. Also we cannot overlook that he led his Cape Fear HS team to a conference tournament Championship and received the Basketball Elite Cumberland County Player of the Year award for his performances all season. A.J has been somewhat under the radar at this point, he currently holds one Division two offer but definitely should be getting the attention of Low Major Division one programs. He is a versatile player that can cause problems for opponents on both ends of the floor, on offense he can score the ball multiple ways, while making plays for others. He has a natural gift for passing and knows how to put the pass right on point to where his teammates need to be so that they can finish plays with ease. On the defensive end he gets after it as well, using his quick hands to pick up steals and deflections as well as using his lateral quickness to make scoring opportunities difficult.
Will his game translate?
There is no doubt in my mind that his ability will translate very well to the next level as he depends on his IQ to dominate games instead of athleticism like many others. His competitive spirit and leadership qualities will only help him become a very good PG at the next level , with all that being said he still has a lot of potential left in him and should be watched closely. Throughout this summer he has played with Team Wall on the Adidas Silver Bracket and we definitely expect him to have college coaches tracking him throughout the year.
